Child/Adolescent Psychotherapy
In my work with children, I use play therapy informed by my training in psychodynamic and mentalization-based techniques. The materials we use in my office include sensory-based activities, art supplies, board games, and pretend play items, all with the goal of providing an outlet for the expression of feelings and thoughts and helping free the child up to express these. In my work with adolescents, I also integrate skills-based approaches (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, executive functioning interventions) to support emotion regulation and promote teens’ autonomy in managing their day-to-day lives. I work closely with parents as part of my approach to child treatment.
Some of the common childhood issues I see in my practice are:
-
anxiety and depression
-
behavioral difficulties (disruptive behaviors, aggression)
-
ADHD
-
trauma
-
attachment and bonding issues
-
separation anxiety
-
effects of divorce
-
development of racial/cultural identity and sexuality.
