Couples Therapy

I use a psychodynamic framework and incorporate Emotion-Focused Therapy techniques to help couples change patterns that compromise connection. In my experience, what helps couples understand what is so charged and activating about their conflicts, and begin to approach them differently, is to first see what these touch on within themselves, related to their past experiences. I take time to establish an empathic connection and understanding of each partner, and then to identify any cycle(s) of conflict in which the couple repeatedly gets stuck. I use an active stance with couples as we work together in order to stimulate new understandings and allow for more effective emotional expression and communication.
